Thanks to all at Incredible Edible Rossendale Harvest Celebration

Just a quick note of thanks to all who attended the Harvest Celebration at Whitaker Park in Rawtenstall last Sunday organized by Incredible Edible Rossendale.
We were fortunate to have a sunny day (although the wind was rather gusty), so visitors were able to spend time outside perousing the stalls and enjoying the Incredible Edible garden.
The cider press was kept busy with apples provided by visitors and from the locality, and the cafe at the Museum did a good trade. (Their herbal teas are the best I've tasted).
The only downside - not enough visitors.
Stallholders and organisers put so much effort into these local events but it always seems to be the same old visitors that attend, despite increased advertising.
So any ideas of how to get Rawtenstallians (or Rossendalians) out of bed on a Sunday morning and out into the sunshine would be much appreciated by all of us.
Once again, thank you, Paul Scott-Bates of Incredible Edible Rossendale for organising the event.

Soaps

Soap - we all need it, we all use it. But do we ever really consider what we are putting on our skin?  Most of the usual health and beauty products, including soaps, available today are loaded with nasty chemicals that can have harmful effects on our overall health (research also suggests that this is one of the key contributory factors in the increase in cancers). Check the label! If you wouldn't want to put it on your body - avoid putting it on your body - is the general rule. Nature has provided us with a plethora of pure elements that can be used to keep us healthy, clean and beautiful. Essentially Natural strives to give you the pure alternative - check out our website for the wonderful range of soaps that you won't find anywhere else.

"I can hardly contain my excitement at such 'highly recommended' products. The Chamomile Shampoo bar, along with the Nettle & Marshmallow are a must.  Both soaps are beautiful to smell and produce a rich lather. But most importantly leaves your skin feeling ultra soft", (Mrs. Martins, W. Yorks).

Best Regards,

Dennis Freedman,

Welcome: Natural or Not? (4 OF 5)

Natural or Not?

So, if the label says it's natural, I'm okay?

Did you know that a manufacturer can label a product as 'Organic' even if it only contains one organic ingredient? The same goes for 'Natural'. Within the UK, there is currently no existing government legislation that states what can and can't be defined as being an Organic or Natural product.

Because of this, we could easily be led to believe that products that have potentially harmful chemicals within them are in fact natural, animal and eco friendly.

The cosmetics industry doesn't make it easy for consumers to know what they are buying - they obviously don't want to advertise that a product is filled with cheap chemicals that quite possibly will have some kind of adverse affect on your body or the environment in the long run. Would you knowingly buy a product that did that?

Ingredient lists on beauty products are confusing and tricky to decipher with their Latin names. For example, "parfum" could actually be a cocktail containing over 100 chemicals!

Be sure that you are only using the best for your body with Essentially Natural. Our peppermint lip balms are a tasty treat that won't do your body any harm.

"My favourite product was the Organic Peppermint Lip Balm which left my lips feeling soft, nourished and fuller. Definitely a handbag essential, it tastes delicious!"Aspire Magazine, who have awarded us a Certificate of Recognition for Organic 2007

Welcome: Candles May Cause Cancer (3 OF 5)

Candles May Cause Cancer

We are all used to sensational headlines like the one above alerting us to the latest threat to our health, but the highlighting of this particular issue is welcome news to Essentially Natural, who have for years been trying to educate the public about the consequences of choosing to burn scented paraffin wax candles in their homes.

Scientists from the University of South Carolina have made public it's research on the toxicity of paraffin candles and what has long been suspected by advocates of natural living, has finally been proved. The burning of paraffin wax releases toxic and carcinogenic fumes, such as toluene and benzene, and is not recommended as an everyday indulgence.

Universally loved by women and hated by men, the 'scented ' candle has invaded homes everywhere. But not all candles are created equal and although they are all marketed as a 'well-being' product; it would appear that many of them could actually be harming your health.

The scented candle is supposed to replicate the effects of aromatherapy by fragrancing your environment and thus lifting your mood. The trouble is most scented candles are made from paraffin wax loaded with artificial smells that offer a dizzying array of aromas from Bubblegum to Pina Colada. The proof is out there; paraffin candles are officially toxic. The answer is simple. Natural wax candles, either beeswax or soy wax have been given a clean bill of health and providing you opt for ones fragranced only with pure, organic essential oils, will actually enhance your space in a truly therapeutic and safe way. Soy wax lasts much longer than its paraffin counterpart and is, therefore, better value for money anyway. It's time throw away paraffin candles and bring out the soy wax alternatives.

For relaxation try Lavender; to lift your mood a combination that includes Bergamot is a must, and if you still want to indulge in a romantic evening with that man who tried to ban smelly candles from your life, go for a candle infused with the aphrodisiac properties of Ylang Ylang or Patchouli.

Whether at home or away, our soy aromatherapy candles make a classy pampering treat for yourself or a wonderful gift for someone you love.

Clean Smelling Candles with only organic essential oils...

All our aromatherapy candles are made by hand from non-GM soy wax (from sustainable sources). We use only certified organically-grown essential oils and an environmentally-friendly wick (made from natural cotton) to ensure you get the healthiest and purest you can buy.

We're proud to advertise our Pure Distinction range as the best aromatherapy candles made in the UK, and are sure you'll agree too. Choose from Small, Medium or Extra Large candles, in jars that can be reused time after time after the candle has burned. With burn times of approx 13hrs and 100hrs, these candles will provide any room with a subtle scent that cannot be compared to candles made with paraffin wax.

"I want candles that don't smell like they have been made from cheap synthetics. I am very concerned about the toxins in regular candles and that's why Essentially Natural soy candles are the only ones for me.  They provide me and my children with pure clean air and all the benefits of essential oils,"  Mrs Feakin, Littleborough, Lancs
