What's in a shampoo bar and why do I need one?

What’s a shampoo bar and why do I need one?

(Updated re-post)

Pick a cheap bottle of shampoo up off your supermarket shelf, and read the label. You may find that, even in those claiming to be natural, everything’s written in ‘Latin’, and there may be as many as 40 or more ingredients listed. Most, if not all, of these will be synthetic chemicals; some may be carcinogenic. Just try Googling them for their definitions! You might be put off by the number of ingredients alone, but unless you are a chemist or otherwise in the know you could be forgiven for thinking that your shampoo was harmless, good for you, and good for the environment.

But you’d be wrong!

The main problem with most industrial shampoos is that they are made from detergents produced from the by-products of petroleum production from crude oil. These detergents are bad for the scalp as they interfere with the skin’s normal activity. They can also damage the hair and are bad for the environment too.

Have you ever thought of using a solid shampoo bar?

Our shampoo bars are handmade and use traditional methods of production which are slow and gentle. We do not use any preservatives in our soaps or shampoo bars as many of our customers are intolerant to these. So we can justly claim that our shampoo bars are the purest you can buy.

The benefits of using our shampoo bass

  • No more spills. Our shampoos come in an easy-to-use bar, good for taking away on holiday or travelling
  • They make excellent soaps in their own right. Nettle is cleansing, Chamomile is healing
  • You will benefit from the natural conditioners in the oils we use. No need for a separate conditioner
  • You can safely use our shampoo bars on babies over three months. But of course keep away from eyes and other sensitive areas
  • Our shampoo bars use no synthetics or other nasties. All our raw materials are Soil Association certified
  • You can be sure you’re getting an environmentally-friendly product. They are are completely biodegradable and they come in organza bags made from recycled materials
  • You can be secure in the knowledge that all our shampoo bars are cruelty-free. They are approved by the Vegan Society*

"I was recently home from New Zealand and visiting my parents who had one of your Nettle Marshmallow & Rosemary Shampoo Bars. I just wanted to write to say how fantastic I thought it was. I was rather sceptical about using a ‘bar of soap’ to wash my hair, however, I was incredibly impressed and infact I chose to use it everyday for the rest of my 3 week holiday, making my (long) hair feel incredibly (and surprisingly) soft and shiny!" (Nicola, now living in New Zealand).

Organic September 20% off!

As part of Organic September awareness-raising, we’re offering 20% off everything on orders over £15. Why not try one of our Organic Shampoo bars as part of your order?

Our Nettle & Marshmallow is especially good for darker hair and contains antiseptic tea tree. Our Roman Chamomile is great for lighter hair or for children’s hair and smells divine.
