You’ll be pleased to know that this is the last email you’ll be getting from us this year - unless, of course, you place an order with us. :-) Please do tell your friends about us and spread the word about the benefits of natural and organic products when you can. And please also try to give us feedback so we can improve. If you would like to submit a review but find it too time-consuming to do this on the website, just drop your feedback to us in an email or FaceBook message and we’ll do the rest.

Last-Minute Buys and Bargains

We still have some of our goodies for sale on the Virtual Craft Stall. Remember, these are only available by phone, email or FaceBook message. We have also just updated our stock on the website so you should not get any surprises of out-of-stock items if you order. We cannot guarantee, though, that anything ordered after Saturday morning (20th December) will reach you in time for Christmas.

Christmas Closing

We will still be able to deliver locally until Tuesday 23rd December but will be closed after this date until Monday 5th January 2015. Anything you order over the Christmas and New Year period will not go out to you before Monday, 5th January.

Thoughts for the coming year

This time last year we were seriously wondering whether we could continue. Well, we seem to have turned the corner of recession to we won’t be going away in the near future. We will, however, have to rethink our pricing over the next month or two as many of our raw materials have increased in price dramatically. Our Virtual Craft Fair Stall has provided some interesting results and has done wonders for our FaceBook page. Many of you like the idea of good quality fragrances so long as they’re produced on an organic base, so we may continue this idea next year. We are also aware that our website needs a good makeover and we hope to be able to do this as soon as possible.

What’s a shampoo bar and why do I need one?

Pick a cheap bottle of shampoo up off your supermarket shelf, and read the label. You may find that, even in those claiming to be natural, everything’s written in ‘Latin’, and there may be as many as 40 or more ingredients listed. Most, if not all, of these will be synthetic chemicals; some may be carcinogenic. Just try Googling them for their definitions! You might be put off by the number of ingredients alone, but unless you are a chemist or otherwise in the know you could be forgiven for thinking that your shampoo was harmless, good for you, and good for the environment.

But you’d be wrong!

The main problem with most industrial shampoos is that they are made from detergents produced from the by-products of petroleum production from crude oil. These detergents are bad for the scalp as they interfere with the skin’s normal activity. They can also damage the hair and are bad for the environment too.

Have you ever thought of using a solid shampoo bar?

Our shampoo bars are handmade and use traditional methods of production which are slow and gentle. We do not use any preservatives in our soaps or shampoo bars as many of our customers are intolerant to these. So we can justly claim that our shampoo bars are the purest you can buy.

This is a slightly extended version of our latest blog post.

You may have read earlier that our order emails are working properly again and wondered what this was all about. Lots of things went wrong when we recently upgraded our website, and there are still a few problems that need ironing out. For instance, the pounds sign doesn't show up properly, our affiliates are not able to log in, our offsite newsletter isn't working correctly and customers can't redeem their bonus points. But, at least, when they order something, they receive an email to tell them their order has been placed; is being processed; and has been completed (i.e. dispatched).

As we continue to fix our website problems, we're very aware that the traditional summer holiday period in August is one where people start to think about stocking up for the autumn and, dare I say, for Christmas. And we've always had a sale over the end of August Bank Holiday. (I think there should be two in August, one at the beginning and one at the end, don't you?)

So, to help you all, and to help us catch up with some of you who may have been reluctant to place orders while we had problems with our website, we're putting a 30 % off everything sale on from now until the end of August.

Celebrate the commonwealth games

Celebrate the Commonwealth Games with us!

With the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow starting tonight, it looks as if we’re in for another glamourous opening ceremony as well as some major athletic feats. The venue of course has significance this year as we’re all focused on how Scotland will vote on independence.

Not all of us will be glued to the TV for all the events, of course, but I bet most of us will have a few drinks over the next ten days to celebrate either the opening ceremony, the games themselves, our favourite athlete or just the glorious summer we’re experiencing at the moment.

Insect Repellent Soap selling fast!

We’re experiencing hotter days than usual but, at least where we are, the high humidity means that our little buggy friends seem to bite us more as we perspire in the heat. Our 100% organic insect repellent soap is selling fast, as also are our citronella products. To use the soap, just wash in the normal way (face, forehead, neck, arms, etc.) and lightly rinse so the citronella and lavender oils can do their work. If you do get bitten, try a few drops of vinegar, or, if you have them, make up a massage oil with a couple of drops of clove, lemon and chamomile in your favourite carrier oil such as sweet almond, jojoba or even olive or sesame if you have nothing else. Use a few drops of chamomile in the carrier oil on its own if you like, but never use any essential oils directly on the skin. Lavender is an exception with care, but certainly do not use clove or lemon as these are irritants. Always only use a drop or two of any essential oils per 100ml, and apply very sparingly.

SSL security glitch now sorted! It came to our attention recently that our SSL security for payments etc had disappeared. This has, fortunately, now been fixed so you can order with confidence that your personal and payment data are once again secure.

Apparently the SSL service became broken when our host provider upgraded their servers. we will keep an eye on this in the future in case we do not receive an alert. Once bitten, twice shy as they say! We thank our customers for continuing to order via the telephone during this period.

Untitled 1 Bastille Day

Well, with all the excitement of the World Cup now over, it’s easy to forget that today, le quatorze Juillet, or Bastille Day as we call it, is a celebration of all things French. And what better way to celebrate than with the best known of French flowers – Lavender. Our 100% organic French lavender soap is something that, once you smell it, you will never want to be with out. Made from the purist organic virgin olive oil you can by and with the addition of French lavender flowers grown in our own garden, it just can’t be beat. But if a soap doesn’t grab you, how about buying some of the organic French lavender essential oil itself. It has many uses, not just to make things smell nice, but even in cooking! This app has been recommended and is in use by other blind and visually impaired users. It seems to have many features, including of course Markdown, and you can also preview your document as an HTML formatted version and even create a PDF.

With spellchecking, Word count and much more it’s worth investigating.

But, as always, the main thing to be seen is whether it will successfully upload my posts to my account on Blogger (or Blogspot).

Celebrate my new Guide dog this Bank Holiday Weekend!

As those of you who follow us on Twitter at www.twitter.com/e_nat or on Facebook at www.facebook.com/essentiallynaturaluk will know, I am training with a new guide dog at the moment.
 And, yes, sales are definitely down as my mind has not been on work.

But then I can't think of a nicer reason not to have to spend my time on marketing.

To celebrate, we're not only offering our usual Bank Holiday 20% off discount but are also giving Free Shipping to UK addresses until Tuesday 22nd April.

Barney is a puppy in his behaviour when out of harness and not working, but I have a feeling he will be able to cope with the difficult semi-rural environment we live in here in Rossendale.

My full training schedule starts on Tuesday, so my thoughts for the next month will again, I fear, be on Barney rather than on work.

You can, of course, always leave an answerphone message for us or email me if you need a query answering or prefer to order over the telephone and I will get back to you the same day if I can.

An update and some thoughts

A moment's rest before the next round of activity begins!

I'm glad to say that all the Mother's Day orders were posted in time and we have just one to deliver locally today. We seem to be getting back on track at last, at least in our production/orders/delivery schedule.

Also, the problem with our invoices showing with a Dollar symbol instead of a Pound sign has now been fixed. One thing I've learned from this: If you fix something yourself (however long and frustrating a process), you do come out with more knowledge and are more in control of your website than you were before!

But we still have a problem that I will have to get help for, but it does not affect the website from a customer's point of view.

FaceBook are (or should that, correctly, be is?) revamping their 'pages' app and layout, some of which will help customers and business providers, but I wonder about possible drawbacks. People do like familiarity, and too muych change too quickly may drive people away from FaceBook I fear.

And as the sunshine makes everyone, including me, feel happy - my thoughts are turning to new product ideas.

As some of you will know, we have had to scale down our soap production temporarily as we do not have a fulltime production assistant in place at the moment.

WE have just made a new batch of our Chamomile and Nettle shampoo bars, Rose & Cocoa Butter soap and Extra Virgin Olive (Castile) soap.

We're Back in Business - January 2014

We're back in business!

We are back up and running after an extended holiday period spent with our family. While at the moment we have no soaps in stock, there are Soy Aromatherapy Candles, Skincare and Home Fragrance products in stock.

For the short term we will be reducing the number of soaps we will be selling in order to help our production efficiency, and we hope to reflect these changes on the website in the next few days, but in the meantime, if it's on the site, you can safely order!

January is the gloomiest month, they say, so why not pamper yourself with one of our moisturisers, or cheer your house up with a candle made from pure soy wax with the purest organic essential oils you can find!
