| Shampoos Pick a cheap bottle of shampoo up off your supermarket shelf, and read the label. You may find that, even in those calling themselves natural, everything's written in 'Latin', and there may be as many as 40 or more ingredients listed. Most, if not all, of these will be synthetic chemicals; some may be carcinogenic. Just try 'Googling' them for their definitions! You might be put off by the number of ingredients alone, but unless you are a chemist or otherwise 'in the know' you could be forgiven for thinking that your shampoo was harmless, good for you, and good for the environment. But you'd be wrong! The main problem with most industrial shampoos is that they are made from detergents produced from the by-products of petrol production from crude oil. These detergents are bad for the scalp as they interfere with the skin's normal activity. They can also damage the hair and are bad for the environment too.
